India, Feb 18 : Scotland all rounder Brad Currie described the experience of playing in front of huge crowds in India as a “dream come true,” following his team’s seven wicket defeat to Nepal at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Tuesday.
Currie recalled previous matches in India, including a game at Eden Gardens against England with over 40,000 fans. “For me, that as a kid growing up was a dream come true. Here at Wankhede, again, a dream come true,” he said. He added that the Kolkata crowd created an atmosphere “like playing a cricket game in a nightclub,” praising the energy and enthusiasm of Indian fans.
The Scotland player highlighted the growth that such experiences bring to athletes. “We grow as players for that experience… we love playing these games and entertaining the crowd,” he said, joking that returning to smaller crowds in Scotland would feel “like playing in a library.”
On preparation, Currie noted the team had two warm up games and plenty of net sessions, stating that the players were ready for upcoming challenges, including the Namibia series and the Cricket World Cup League 2.
In the match, Nepal successfully chased 171 runs, with Dipendra Singh Airee scoring an unbeaten 50 off 24 balls. Paudel also played a key role with the ball, breaking Scotland’s 80-run partnership by dismissing George Munsey.
