Los Angeles, Sep 19: Hollywood star Brad Pitt is set to return as Gerry Lane in the long-awaited sequel to the 2013 zombie thriller “World War Z”, with award winning filmmaker Edward Berger attached to direct the project.
The sequel is being developed by Paramount Pictures and will feature Pitt once again as the former United Nations investigator at the centre of the story. British screenwriter Dennis Kelly has been tapped to write the screenplay, according to Variety.
Pitt will also produce the film alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner through their production company Plan B Entertainment, while Berger will serve as an executive producer.
Berger is known for directing films including “Conclave” and “All Quiet on the Western Front”, the latter earning widespread recognition during awards season.
Details about the sequel’s storyline are being kept under wraps. The original “World War Z”, released in 2013, starred Pitt as Gerry Lane and followed his efforts to contain a rapidly spreading zombie outbreak.
The return of Pitt and the appointment of Berger mark a new stage in the development of the sequel, which has been anticipated by fans of the original film.
