MUMBAI, Mar 6: India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah achieved a major career milestone on Thursday after claiming his 500th international wicket during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against England at the Wankhede Stadium.
The landmark moment came with the first delivery of Bumrah’s spell, when the right-arm fast bowler struck in the fifth over of England’s chase. With that breakthrough, he became the eighth Indian cricketer to reach the 500-wicket mark in international cricket.
Bumrah joined an illustrious group of Indian bowling greats including Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, Ravindra Jadeja, Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, further cementing his place among the country’s finest bowlers.
The 32 year old, who made his international debut against Australia in Sydney in January 2016, has developed an outstanding record across all formats. His tally now includes 234 wickets in 52 Test matches, 149 in 89 One Day Internationals and 117 in 94 T20 Internationals, reflecting his sustained dominance over nearly a decade.
Bumrah has also been a key figure for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Entering the semi-final with nine wickets from six games under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, he reached double figures in the tournament after dismissing England captain Harry Brook in the knockout contest.
Earlier in the competition, the pacer delivered match-winning spells in the Super 8 stage against South Africa and the West Indies, emerging as India’s leading wicket-taker in both matches. He had also made an early statement in the group-stage encounter against Pakistan in Colombo by removing Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha in his opening over at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Bumrah also holds the distinction of being India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. In the semi-final clash against England, he returned figures of 1 for 33 in four overs, applying pressure during the crucial death overs.
His disciplined bowling helped India secure victory and advance to the T20 World Cup final, adding another memorable chapter to the pacer’s remarkable career.
