CBSE Introduces AI-Powered Learning Assessment Framework for Secondary Schools

New initiative aims to deliver personalised learning insights, strengthen competency-based education and improve classroom outcomes

New Delhi, July 28 : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a new AI-powered learning assessment framework for secondary schools, marking another step towards integrating technology into classroom education. The initiative is designed to help schools evaluate students beyond traditional examinations by focusing on conceptual understanding, analytical thinking and problem solving abilities.

The framework, announced on Monday, will initially be implemented in selected affiliated schools before being expanded nationwide in phases. It will utilise artificial intelligence to generate detailed learning reports that identify students’ strengths, learning gaps and areas requiring additional support.

According to CBSE officials, the new assessment model aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes competency-based education instead of rote learning. The digital platform will provide teachers with data driven insights to design personalised learning plans and improve academic performance.

Education experts believe AI-based assessments can reduce the burden of repetitive testing while helping educators monitor learning progress more effectively. Schools participating in the pilot programme will receive specialised training to integrate the system into regular classroom activities.

The board stated that the platform maintains strict data privacy standards and ensures that student information remains protected through secure digital infrastructure. Schools will also have access to dashboards that track overall class performance and subject wise progress.

Teachers welcomed the move, saying technology enabled assessments can provide more accurate feedback and allow timely academic interventions. Parents are expected to receive periodic progress reports that explain their child’s learning journey in a simplified format.

The initiative also supports inclusive education by identifying students who may require additional academic assistance or specialised learning strategies. Officials said future updates could include multilingual assessment support and adaptive testing modules.

With digital learning becoming an integral part of India’s education system, CBSE expects the AI-powered assessment framework to enhance teaching quality, improve student engagement and prepare learners with skills required for higher education and future careers.
