CDS Gen Anil Chauhan: Modern Warfare Demands Integrated, Tech-Driven Solutions

At Tri-Services Symposium, CDS urges academia, startups, and industry to drive indigenous defence innovations for next-gen warfare.

New Delhi : Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan on Monday underscored the changing nature of modern warfare and the urgent need for integrated technological solutions to meet future challenges.

Speaking at the inaugural Tri-Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment, Gen Chauhan said the convergence of kinetic and non-kinetic domains requires advanced innovations that bring together the armed forces, academia, start-ups, and industry.

Highlighting the importance of indigenous capabilities, the CDS urged academic institutions and innovators to scale up research across platforms, weapons, networks, and doctrines, making India a “global leader in next-generation defence technologies.”

The symposium  themed ‘Vivek va Anusandhan se Vijay’ (Victory through Wisdom and Research) — brought together directors and faculty from premier R&D institutions, including IISc, IITs, IIITs, and private universities. Students from 62 institutes also participated, presenting 43 innovative exhibits evaluated for military applications. Promising projects will be considered for collaborative R&D and funding support.

A highlight of the event was 95 structured one-on-one meetings between academic innovators and representatives of the three services, providing strategic guidance on converting ideas into defence use cases.

The symposium also saw the signing of MoUs with leading universities and institutes such as IIT-Madras, Rashtriya Raksha University, MS Ramaiah University, and others, aimed at building long-term collaboration in defence technology.

The defence ministry said T-SATS marks a “significant step towards integrating academic research with military requirements,” enabling India to co-create future-ready solutions for national security.
