RAJOURI, MARCH, 01: To generate awareness about the know-how of the latest practices in the field of sericulture and with the aim to strengthen the sericulture sector in the district, the Central Silk Board in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, District Employment and Counseling Center Rajouri on Monday organized a day-long Resham Kisan Mela cum Exhibition here at Lamberi block of the district.
The People from surrounding villages like Dandesar, Bagnoti, Soit, Lamberi, and others thronged the event in large numbers.
Stalls depicting the schemes and services offered by different Departments and silk-made products were also showcased during the mela. The people were made aware of Government schemes and programmes being implemented in the district for their socio–economic development.
A number of fruit and vegetable growers hailing from adjoining areas of the Block Lamberi participated in the Mela along with their fruit exhibits. A number of samples including, fresh fruits and Vegetables were displayed in the mela to boost the home scale processing of horticulture produce.
The people also interacted with the resource persons and took expert guidance from them to solve their problems related to sericulture activities.
A number of progressive farmers also spoke on the occasion and raised vital issues pertaining to farmers like increase in the rates of cocoon, establishment of cocoon rearing centers, maize procurement center; farmers training at local level; sanction of new sheds and distribution of quality seeds among the Silk rearers families.
Incharge Director CSRTI, Central Silk Board, Pampore, UT, threw light on the latest technologies being used to enhance silk production in the country. The farmers were motivated to take a step forward and make the best use of the available technologies to boost the sericulture sector and to make silkworm rearing a medium of better income for them.
He said all the departments are striving hard to ameliorate the condition of the farmer community and helping them to enhance their incomes. He informed that the Central Silk Board is also implementing the Silk Samagra scheme for the silk rearing farmers.
While responding to the issue raised by the farmers, he made it clear that the seeds that are being provided to the silk rearing farmers pass a number of trails before handing over to them. He also said that the seeds get destroyed due to improper handling and unfavorable climatic conditions.
He also spoke on a number of issues confronting the farmer community.
Later, a book published by Regional Silk research institute was also launched by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nowshera Sukhdev Singh Samyal, while Dr. Sardar Singh, ASP, Girdhari Lal Sharma, Incharge Director CSRTI, Sangeeta Sharma, DDC councillor Seri, and other senior officers of CSB and Agriculture were present.
Among the others, DDC member, Sangeeta Sharma; Joint Director Sericulture RK Bhagat, Chief Agriculture Officer, Mahesh Verma, District Agriculture Officer, Randheer Sharma, Deputy Director Employment and counseling , Shafiq Mir, scientists of CSB, officers of Agriculture, Sericulture and Employment.
