Jammu, Sept 24: The Central University of Jammu has awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Mass Communication and New Media to Ms. Kumerjit Chajgotra, marking a significant academic achievement.
Ms. Chajgotra, daughter of Sh. Kishori Lal and Smt. Sudesh Kumari, residents of Ghagwal, District Samba, and wife of Mr. Himanshi Verma, son of Sh. Ghar Chand and Smt. Pinki Devi of Bishnah, Jammu, successfully completed her doctoral research in the Department of Mass Communication and New Media.
Her thesis, titled “Impact of Contemporary Media on the Subaltern in Jammu Region: A Case Study of District Samba”, examined the complex relationship between modern media practices and marginalized voices in society, with a focus on the Samba district. The work sheds light on how evolving media landscapes influence the representation, empowerment, and challenges of subaltern communities in the region.
She pursued her doctoral studies under the guidance and supervision of Prof. J. N. Baliya, a distinguished academic and Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at the Central University of Jammu. Prof. Baliya commended the research for its critical insights into contemporary media’s social implications and its potential to contribute meaningfully to policy and communication strategies.
The university, through an official notification, declared Ms. Chajgotra qualified for the award of the Ph.D. degree, recognizing her contribution to advancing research in the growing field of media studies.
