Centre Extends Rural Road Scheme Till 2027 to Boost Connectivity

Extension of PMGSY-I Expected to Accelerate Development in Remote Regions

NEW DELHI: The Government of India has approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-I) till March 2027, aiming to strengthen rural connectivity across the country. The decision is expected to fast-track the completion of pending road infrastructure projects, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

Officials stated that the move will significantly improve access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets for rural populations. The extension comes as part of the government’s broader push to enhance infrastructure and support inclusive growth.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the decision, noting that it would play a crucial role in improving connectivity in far-flung villages and boosting regional development.

The scheme, which has already transformed rural mobility in many states, is now expected to deliver even greater impact with the extended timeline.
