Centre Should Initiate Statehood Talks With J&K Like It Did With Ladakh: NC MLA

Ali Mohammad Sagar urges Centre to fulfil PM Modi’s statehood promise, calls for dialogue with Jammu and Kashmir leaders to address governance and public issues.

Srinagar, Oct 29: National Conference (NC) MLA and party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar on Wednesday urged the Centre to initiate talks with the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, similar to the ongoing discussions with various groups in Ladakh, to address pressing political and governance issues, including the restoration of statehood.
Speaking during the Zero Hour proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sagar reminded the government that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the restoration of statehood to J&K both on the floor of Parliament and during the inauguration of the Sonamarg tunnel in January this year.
“The Prime Minister stated that what he says, he does. Then why is he not fulfilling his promise on restoring statehood?” Sagar questioned.
Representing the Khanyar constituency, Sagar also expressed concern over what he described as “two power centres” in J&K, which he said were complicating governance.
“The Centre should hold talks with the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, just like it is doing with the representatives of Ladakh, to resolve key issues. The people of J&K have high expectations from this House, and it is our collective responsibility to work together to address their concerns,” he added.
