Srinagar, Oct 27: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a marginal reduction in the capital expenditure (Capex) allocation for urban local bodies for the financial year 2025–26.
According to the Housing and Urban Development Department, a total of ₹634.53 crore has been earmarked under the BE Capex Budget 2025–26, compared to ₹678.94 crore in 2024–25 reflecting a decrease of ₹44.41 crore.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Surinder Kumar Choudhary in the Assembly, the department clarified that the reduction stems from rationalization and prioritization of available financial resources.
“The decision has been taken in line with the government’s commitment to maintain fiscal discipline and ensure optimum utilization of funds,” the department stated.
Officials further added that despite the lower allocation, the focus will remain on improving urban infrastructure, sanitation, and public amenities across municipalities in Jammu and Kashmir.
