New Delhi, Feb 09 : The Central Water Commission (CWC) will hold a one day stakeholders’ workshop on Monday aimed at enhancing flood forecasting services and refining guidelines for detailed project reports related to flood control and anti-erosion measures.
Organised under the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, the programme seeks to familiarise stakeholders with the Commission’s ongoing services and recent initiatives while gathering feedback to improve coordination between the Centre and states. The effort is expected to support more effective planning, preparedness, and response strategies.
Participating flood prone states will present their own forecasting practices and explore ways to align them with CWC systems, fostering greater operational synergy. Officials believe the exchange will encourage stronger institutional cooperation and lead to more robust, climate resilient water management frameworks.
Technical sessions scheduled for the forenoon will showcase the Commission’s capabilities, including short-term forecasts, seven-day advisories, inundation mapping, reservoir operation guidance, glacial lake outburst flood monitoring, and flash flood alerts. Emerging tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, along with extended-range rainfall predictions from the India Meteorological Department, will also be discussed.
The afternoon segment will centre on procedures for preparing and evaluating Detailed Project Reports, with an emphasis on improving proposal quality and expediting approvals. Inputs gathered from state representatives are likely to inform future revisions of these guidelines.
The workshop will conclude with CWC Chairman Anupam Prasad outlining key outcomes and future priorities. It will be inaugurated by V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, and attended by senior Commission officials and state government representatives.
