02-10-2023 : Chief Justice of India, Justice D Y Chandrachud, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary during his visit to the United Kingdom. This tribute took place as part of his official visit to the UK for a service at Westminster Abbey, marking the beginning of the legal year in England and Wales.

During the annual celebrations at the Gandhi statue in Tavistock Square, central London, Justice Chandrachud delivered a special address to honor the Father of the Nation. He spoke eloquently about Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and the global impact of his teachings.

Justice Chandrachud emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi’s influence extended far beyond India’s borders. The event, attended by judges and legal professionals, featured readings by the UK’s Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Alex Chalk, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, Dame Sue Carr.
