China, May 21 : China has expanded its military activity in the South China Sea through large-scale naval drills and patrol operations, increasing tensions with neighboring countries and Western allies.
Chinese state media reported that warships and fighter aircraft participated in exercises aimed at strengthening maritime defense capabilities. The drills were conducted near disputed waters also claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations.
The government of Philippines expressed concern over what it described as aggressive maritime maneuvers by Chinese vessels near contested reefs and islands.
The United States responded by reaffirming its commitment to freedom of navigation in international waters. American naval forces have continued patrol missions in the region, further intensifying geopolitical competition.
Security analysts believe the South China Sea remains one of the world’s most sensitive flashpoints due to its strategic trade routes and energy resources. Several countries fear that miscalculations or confrontations could destabilize the broader Indo-Pacific region.
Diplomatic talks between China and ASEAN nations are ongoing, but disputes over territorial claims remain unresolved.
