Chinese National Deported to Hong Kong for Visa Violations

Hu Congtai detained in Srinagar after entering restricted regions in violation of tourist visa conditions.

Srinagar, Dec 11: Chinese national Hu Congtai, who had entered Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir in violation of his visa conditions, has been deported to Hong Kong, officials confirmed on Thursday.

“The Chinese national who was detained here last week has been sent to Delhi on the evening of December 10 for onward deportation to Hong Kong,” authorities said.

The 29-year-old Congtai had arrived in Delhi on November 19 on a tourist visa, which allowed him to visit Buddhist religious sites in Varanasi, Agra, New Delhi, Jaipur, Sarnath, Gaya and Kushi Nagar. However, he boarded a flight to Leh on November 20 and failed to register at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) at the Leh airport.

He was later detained in Srinagar after arriving on a flight from Delhi on December 1, following which deportation proceedings were initiated.

Officials said the action underscores strict enforcement of visa rules in restricted and sensitive regions of the country.
