CIK Foils Jaish–Dukhtaran-e-Millat Women Recruitment Plot in Kashmir

Predawn raids across Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam uncover terror recruitment drive targeting women.

Srinagar, Nov 18: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday carried out coordinated predawn raids at multiple locations across Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam as part of a fresh probe into a terror recruitment network targeting women in the Valley.

According to official sources, the searches are linked to a newly registered case involving individuals accused of promoting terrorism, glorifying militant violence and attempting to radicalise women for induction into terror ranks. Raids were also conducted inside the Super Speciality Hospital at Shireen Bagh, Srinagar, under court-issued search warrants.

Investigators have uncovered a significant nexus between Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and the banned women’s outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), historically headed by Asiya Andrabi, who has been lodged in jail since 2018. CIK believes that Dr. Umar Farooq and his wife, Shehzaada, were allegedly involved in motivating and recruiting women in Kashmir on the instructions of JeM handlers.

Sources said Shehzaada was being used to quietly revive DeM’s activities while Andrabi remains incarcerated.

The agency is also probing an online radicalisation module suspected to be operating through dark-web channels and OGW networks. During the ongoing searches, investigators recovered incriminating material, including extremist and jihadi literature aimed specifically at women.

Raids are continuing, and officials said arrests are likely soon. More details are awaited.
