NEW DELHI, Oct 10: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday alleged that Delhi Police detained three of its leaders shortly after their flight from Mumbai landed in the national capital.
The party identified the leaders as Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, claiming that their detention was intended to prevent them from participating in a proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
In a statement, the CJP condemned the alleged action, describing it as a pre-planned attempt to obstruct its political activities. The party maintained that the detention infringed upon the leaders’ freedom of movement and demanded their immediate and unconditional release.
The proposed protest was directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the revision of electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The party also raised concerns about changes related to Form 6, which is used by eligible individuals to apply for inclusion in electoral rolls.
The CJP said its demonstration was intended to highlight alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process and demand accountability from the Election Commission.
However, the allegations regarding the detentions were made by the party, and independent confirmation of the circumstances surrounding the incident was not provided in the statement.
The incident comes amid continuing political debate over electoral roll revisions and the procedures governing voter registration. The CJP reiterated its demand for the release of its leaders and criticised what it described as an attempt to prevent peaceful political protest.
