CM Omar Abdullah Hails India’s Women’s Team for World Cup Triumph: “Played with True Courage”

J&K Chief Minister hails India’s first ever Women’s World Cup triumph, says equal pay reforms by BCCI have strengthened the team’s spirit and performance.

Jammu, Nov 3: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for their historic ICC World Cup triumph, applauding their courage, determination, and fighting spirit.

India’s women’s team lifted their maiden World Cup title with a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai on Sunday, marking a landmark moment in Indian sporting history.

“Congratulations to them. It’s a proud moment for the entire nation,” Abdullah, an avid cricket follower, told reporters at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, he said, “When the tournament began, not many believed we would win. But they played with immense courage and pulled off some incredible victories, especially the semi-final against Australia, where they chased a massive target  that was extraordinary.”

Abdullah praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for bridging the gender pay gap, saying the move has positively impacted women’s cricket. “Earlier, there was a huge difference in salaries between men’s and women’s teams. The BCCI’s decision to bring parity has made a big difference. I believe it will be very difficult to defeat this team now,” he said.

Meanwhile, celebrations erupted across Jammu as fans took to the streets, bursting firecrackers and chanting slogans to mark India’s monumental World Cup victory.
