CM Omar Abdullah Offers Apology Amid BJP MLA Walkout in J&K Assembly

Chief Minister clarifies remarks, seeks to calm tensions after Opposition walkout

Jammu, Feb 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed regret over his alleged comments in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, stating that he did not intend to hurt anyone, even as BJP legislators continued their protest inside the House.

Addressing the Assembly, CM Omar said, “I regret my remarks if they have caused any hurt. My comments were directed at them and not at their family members. However, their field commander (referring to LoP Sunil Sharma) went to the extent of dragging my late grandfather into the matter while leaving.”

The controversy began when BJP MLAs deemed the reported remark inappropriate and disrespectful to the dignity of the House. They staged a brief walkout while raising slogans and demanded that the Chief Minister retract the comment and tender an apology.

After returning to the House, the BJP legislators reiterated their call for an apology, insisting that CM Omar acknowledge it as a slip of the tongue and formally express regret. Despite the ongoing protests and noisy scenes, the Assembly proceedings continued.
