Telangana, Feb 21 : Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday described artificial intelligence (AI) as “mankind’s greatest invention” and proposed the creation of a national AI war room to track rapid developments in the sector. He also called for the establishment of an India AI Council and a dedicated AI ministry at both the central and state levels.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, Revanth outlined five key proposals, including the national war room, an Apex AI Council modeled on the GST Council or NITI Aayog, and a Hyderabad based AI startup hub supported by the Union government.
Highlighting the impact of AI on jobs, he stressed the need for urgent reskilling initiatives and a fund to support youth and startups in AI. “India cannot delay this any more. We need a fund for AI startups so our youth can work across AI and aim to build unicorns. Telangana can host an AI startup space for the entire country,” he said.
Revanth compared AI’s significance to historic breakthroughs such as the discovery of fire, the wheel, and the Industrial Revolution, noting that unlike earlier inventions, AI challenges human intellectual dominance by combining cognitive and physical capabilities with robotics. He cautioned that India must transition from being merely a user of global AI platforms to a producer and owner of AI technologies, leading across the AI stack from GPU chip manufacturing and rare earth minerals to applications and AI-driven services.
His roadmap includes the establishment of a world-class AI university with campuses across India focused on original research, immediate steps to secure global AI supply chains, a national AI fund for startups, and a national assessment of AI-driven job displacement. Revanth also suggested hosting AI summits every six months and invited global and national institutions to partner with Telangana on AI innovation and governance.
