CM Stalin Urges PM Modi to Release ₹3,112 Crore Pending Jal Jeevan Mission Funds

Tamil Nadu CM flags delay in central assistance for key drinking water projects

Chennai, Mar 13: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure the release of ₹3,112 crore in pending dues to facilitate the completion of ongoing projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state.

In a letter addressed to the prime minister, Stalin said the pending funds were crucial for the timely execution of drinking water schemes aimed at improving household water supply across Tamil Nadu.

The chief minister also referred to a recent communication from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, which indicated that central assistance could not be extended to the Hogenekkal Phase-III Combined Water Supply Scheme.

Stalin noted that the project had already received approval in June 2023 through the State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee of the ministry.

According to him, the scheme was cleared with an estimated cost of ₹8,428 crore, including a central share of ₹2,283 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission framework.

He emphasised that the release of the pending funds would help ensure uninterrupted progress of water supply infrastructure projects designed to provide safe drinking water to households in the state.
