SRINAGAR, Dec 20: Jammu and Kashmir continued to experience cold weather on Friday night, with widespread cloud cover and intermittent rain across several areas. The Meteorological Department has forecast snowfall in higher altitudes over the next few days.
Despite a slight rise in temperatures at some locations, cold conditions prevailed across Kashmir and parts of Jammu, while Ladakh recorded severe sub-zero temperatures.
According to Kashmir Weather data, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.4°C, while Qazigund and Pahalgam settled at minus 1.0°C each. Kupwara recorded minus 0.7°C, Kokernag 0.8°C, and Gulmarg 2.0°C. Other low temperatures included Pampore at minus 2.0°C, Srinagar Airport minus 1.6°C, Awantipora minus 2.2°C, Budgam minus 1.9°C, Pulwama minus 3.2°C, and Shopian minus 2.9°C.
In the Jammu region, milder temperatures were observed. Jammu city and Batote recorded 9.3°C, Katra 10.0°C, Banihal 3.8°C, Bhaderwah 4.4°C, Kathua 8.8°C, and Jammu Airport 11.0°C. Udhampur, Ramban, Samba, Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Reasi recorded minimum temperatures ranging from 3.8°C to 8.4°C.
Ladakh continued to face intense cold, with Leh recording minus 4.2°C. Temperature readings for Kargil, Nubra Valley, Zojila Pass, and Zethan Rafiabad were not available.
Weather experts have advised residents, especially those in higher reaches, to remain alert as fresh snowfall is expected, which may affect road connectivity and daily life. The Meteorological Department predicts rain and snowfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir from the evening of December 20 until December 23.
