Comprehensive Security Measures Enforced for Prime Minister Modi’s High-Stakes Visit to Jammu, Including Ban on Drones and Paragliders

Jammu, 19-02-2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to Jammu, scheduled for February 20, has prompted a comprehensive security arrangement and the issuance of traffic advisories by officials. Modi’s itinerary includes addressing a public rally at the Maulana Azad Stadium, a focal point of development projects totaling Rs 30,500 crore, spanning education, railway, aviation, and road sectors. Additionally, he is set to distribute appointment letters to 1,500 newly recruited government employees and engage with beneficiaries of various schemes under the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Jammu’ initiative.

Security measures encompass a multi-tiered approach across Jammu, particularly emphasizing the rally venue and its environs. Heightened vigilance extends to border areas, with reinforced border and highway grids, intensifying patrols, and vehicle inspections to thwart potential threats.

Authorities have commandeered the Maulana Azad Stadium, subjecting it to rigorous anti-sabotage checks. In anticipation of security risks, Jammu District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya enacted a temporary ban on drones, paragliders, and other airborne devices, effective until February 20, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Exceptions to the ban include aerial surveillance during VVIP visits or with specific written permission. Defence and Para Military Forces are exempt, while violators face punitive measures under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

Amid forecasts of rain, preparations for Modi’s rally include waterproof tents to accommodate an anticipated crowd of 100,000. BJP leaders have been rallying support for the event, marking the formal launch of their Lok Sabha election campaign.

The meteorological department predicts continued wet weather, with rainfall expected during Modi’s visit. A dry run was conducted to streamline traffic flow, with diversions and restrictions in place along designated routes.

Forty-eight parking locations have been designated for vehicles ferrying attendees, with a detailed advisory urging participants to comply with security protocols. Prohibited items include bags, cameras, weapons, and electronic devices, with mobile phones to be switched off or set to silent mode. Entry before 9:30 am is advised, with cooperation during security checks emphasized.
