New Delhi, Dec 17: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday condemned the central government, calling the ongoing legal proceedings against the party’s top leadership a calculated “political vendetta.”
Speaking to reporters after a Delhi court refused to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s money laundering charges against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five others in the National Herald case, Kharge maintained that the allegations lack merit and are aimed solely at harassing the opposition.
“They are doing this for political vendetta,” Kharge said. “This case is only to trouble the Gandhi family. There is no FIR in this case. Our slogan is ‘Satyamev Jayate’ (Truth alone triumphs), and we welcome the judgment in the case.”
The case has long been a focal point in Indian politics, revolving around alleged financial irregularities linked to party-associated entities. While authorities argue that the probe follows legal procedures, Congress leaders have repeatedly labeled it “procedural tyranny,” pointing out that investigations were initiated based on private complaints rather than an official FIR.
Kharge also alleged that the timing of summonses and court filings often coincides with elections or key parliamentary sessions, suggesting misuse of investigative agencies for political gains.
Framing the court’s ruling as a moral victory, Kharge emphasized the party’s commitment to justice and transparency, portraying the broader legal struggle as a fight against state overreach.
