New Delhi, 19-12-2023 : In anticipation of the upcoming 2024 General Elections, the Congress party has taken a significant step by forming a National Alliance Committee, entrusted with the crucial task of engaging in seat-sharing discussions with various alliance partners. Mukul Wasnik, a prominent Congress leader, has been designated as the convenor of this committee. The announcement was made on X, emphasizing the party’s commitment to strategic collaboration in the run-up to the elections.
The newly constituted committee comprises distinguished leaders, including former Chief Ministers such as Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan and Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, along with Congress stalwarts Mukul Wasnik, Salman Khurshid, and Mohan Prakash. This development aligns with the ongoing INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi, where critical discussions are taking place regarding seat sharing, crafting a joint campaign blueprint, and recalibrating the collective strategy to confront the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The timing of this committee formation is crucial, especially in the aftermath of the Congress party’s setback across the Hindi heartland in the recently concluded Assembly elections. With a focus on a positive agenda that highlights the concerns of the people, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is steering the bloc’s approach for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. However, the limited time frame, with just months remaining until the 2024 elections, poses a challenge for the opposition bloc to reshape its election narrative to counter a resurgent BJP led by Prime Minister Modi.
Regional parties, eager to expedite preparations for the polls, are urging the Congress to initiate seat-sharing talks promptly. Several alliance leaders have communicated their desire to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement by the end of this month, reflecting the urgency and importance attached to collaborative strategizing ahead of the 2024 Parliamentary elections.
