Congress Intensifies Demand for J&K’s Full Statehood: Karra Leads Strategy Meeting in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra, chaired a crucial review meeting at the party headquarters in Srinagar to assess the organizational affairs and activities across North and South Kashmir districts. The session witnessed the participation of senior party leaders and District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, who provided a comprehensive overview of the socio-political landscape and pressing public issues in their respective areas.

The first phase of the review focused on Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Budgam districts. A subsequent meeting scheduled for Sunday will cover Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, and Pulwama, reinforcing the party’s commitment to strengthening its grassroots presence across the region.

During the discussions, Karra emphasized the Congress party’s unwavering commitment to securing full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir with constitutional safeguards. He reiterated that the fight for restoring J&K’s dignity and political autonomy would continue relentlessly until the Central Government fulfills its promise. “We will not rest until the Centre restores J&K’s statehood with full constitutional guarantees. Congress stands firm in its resolve to work for the inclusive development of J&K, which has suffered due to the policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre,” Karra stated.

He urged party workers to amplify Congress’ policies and programs at the grassroots level, ensuring direct engagement with the people and addressing their grievances. Karra stressed the need for proactive efforts in resolving public concerns, including rising electricity tariffs, the imposition of smart meters, growing unemployment, and stalled developmental projects. He called upon the government to prioritize public welfare and administrative accountability to address the escalating hardships faced by the people.

The meeting also deliberated on the party’s strategic roadmap for the coming months, with leaders pledging to intensify outreach programs and mobilization efforts across Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress leadership resolved to present a strong opposition to policies that have negatively impacted the region’s economic and social fabric.

Senior party leaders, including Haji Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Abid Imtiyaz Bhat, MLA Irfan Hafeez Lone, and DCC presidents Irfan Naqib, Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray, Javed Ahmad Mir, and Muzaffar Dar, actively participated in the discussions, reiterating their commitment to strengthening the party’s presence and advocating for the rights of the people.
