27-08-2023 : Pratibha Singh, a prominent figure within the Congress party, has ascended to a new position of significance as she assumes the role of a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC). Notably, she is the widow of the esteemed six-time chief minister, Virbhadra Singh. Her extensive political background, including her role as the state unit president and her three-time tenure as a member of the Lok Sabha from Mandi, has earned her this prestigious elevation.
The recent announcement of the new CWC lineup on August 20, 2023, revealed an interesting development. While Pratibha Singh did not secure a place among the 23 regular members, with the exception of former Union minister Anand Sharma, she emerged as a significant figure in her capacity as the seventh permanent invitee to the CWC.
Presently, Pratibha Singh holds the dual responsibilities of being a permanent invitee to the CWC and the state president for the past year. These roles not only underscore her influence but also indicate her continued active involvement in shaping the party’s direction and strategies.
Looking forward, there are indications that Pratibha Singh is likely to contest the Mandi parliamentary seat for a fourth consecutive term. The potential success of Congress on all four Lok Sabha seats could pave the way for her inclusion in the cabinet under the INDIA alliance. However, the realization of this prospect hinges on the unity and cohesive efforts within the state party unit.
As Congress seeks to bolster its presence and influence within the state government, discussions are underway regarding the induction of three more individuals into the cabinet. The consultations with Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Pratibha Singh have been spearheaded by party in-charge Rajiv Shukla and AICC leader Mallika Arjun Kharge. This process aims to strategically position capable leaders within the government to effectively represent the interests and aspirations of the populace.
Pratibha Singh’s elevation as a permanent invitee to the CWC not only signifies her individual accomplishments but also reflects the recognition of her contributions to the party. As she continues to navigate the political landscape, her potential pursuit of a fourth term in the Mandi parliamentary seat could shape the trajectory of Congress’s presence and influence in the region.
