New Delhi, 10-01-2024 : The Congress party, on Wednesday, made a formal announcement that its chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have chosen to “respectfully decline” the invitation to attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple. The decision was based on the Congress’s claim that the event has been turned into a “political project” by the BJP and the RSS for electoral gains.
Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary, raised questions about the motives behind the inauguration of what he termed as an “incomplete” temple by the leaders of the BJP and the RSS. Last month, Kharge, Gandhi, and Chowdhury were invited to the inauguration ceremony scheduled for January 22, 2024.
In a statement, Ramesh emphasized that while Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in the country and religion is a personal matter, the BJP and RSS have consistently turned the Ayodhya temple into a political project. He alleged that the timing of the incomplete temple’s inauguration has been strategically advanced for electoral gains.
The Congress leaders, while acknowledging the sentiments of millions who revere Lord Ram and abiding by the 2019 Supreme Court judgment, decided to decline the invitation to what they perceive as an event orchestrated by the RSS and BJP.
