Congress MLAs Stage Protest Outside Assembly, Allege Harassment of Kashmiris Beyond J&K

Lawmakers demand Centre’s intervention, vow to raise issue in Assembly

Jammu, Feb 19: Congress legislators Irfan Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed on Thursday staged a protest on the Assembly premises, condemning what they described as continued harassment of Kashmiris in other parts of the country.

Holding placards that read “Stop harassment of Kashmiris,” the two MLAs demonstrated on the steps of the Assembly and were later joined by party colleagues from Rajouri. They asserted that incidents targeting Kashmiri students and residents must end immediately.

Citing a recent episode involving nursing students at a university in Rajasthan, the lawmakers alleged that several students were injured during unrest linked to course recognition issues. They also claimed that a female student was mistreated during the disturbance.

The legislators said they would raise the matter inside the House and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiris residing outside Jammu and Kashmir.
