Congress Pays Floral Tributes To Jawaharlal Nehru, Says His Vision Continues To Inspire Nation

Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge pay homage at Shanti Van, praise Nehru’s commitment to democracy, secularism and scientific progress

New Delhi, May 27: The Congress on Wednesday paid heartfelt tributes to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary, with senior party leaders remembering his contribution towards building a democratic and progressive nation.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge visited Shanti Van in the national capital and offered floral tributes at Nehru’s memorial.

In a message shared on social media, Rahul Gandhi described Nehru as a leader who laid the foundation of modern India through his vision of inclusiveness, constitutional values and social harmony. He said Nehru’s ideals based on freedom, democracy and scientific thinking continue to inspire generations.

Gandhi also highlighted the former prime minister’s lifelong dedication towards creating a united and forward-looking India committed to equality and progress.

Mallikarjun Kharge, in his tribute, said Nehru’s legacy remains deeply connected with the spirit of India and continues to strengthen the country’s commitment towards secularism, democratic values and national unity.

The Congress chief noted that Nehru’s leadership played a defining role in shaping India’s institutions and guiding the country during its formative years after Independence. He further described Nehru as a symbol of peace, truth and national integration.

The Congress party, through its official social media handle, also remembered Nehru as the “architect of modern India” and paid homage to his contribution in nation-building.

Born on November 14, 1889, Nehru served as India’s first and longest-serving prime minister after Independence. He remained in office until his death on May 27, 1964.

Known for his emphasis on parliamentary democracy, industrial growth, education and scientific development, Nehru played a key role in establishing several major national institutions and strengthening India’s global identity during the early decades after Independence.
