Jammu, March 07, 2025: Congress today organized an impressive function at PCC HQ. Jammu to remember former PCC President, Ex-Minister, Ex-Member Constituent Assembly

Bhagat Chhajju Ram Ji on his 118th birth anniversary.

PCC President Tariq Hameed Karra chaired the function while AICC General Secretary and CLP leader Shri G.A. Mir, Working President PCC Raman Bhalla, veteran leader former minister Sdr. Gurmukh Singh, Minister Smt. Suman Bhagat, Th. Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Ved Mahajan, Th. Balbir Singh, Rajnesh Sharma, Hari Singh Chib, Th. Manmohan Singh, Naresh Gupta, Dina Nath Bhagat, Krishan Chander Bhagat, Sdr. Gurdarshan Singh, Sham Lal Bhagat, T.S. Tony, Bhushan Dogra, Adv. Parveen Bhagat (grandson of Bhagat Ji), Ashok Bhagat, Narinder Sharma, Suresh Dogra, Amrit Bali and several other prominent leaders were present on the occasion.

Paying rich tributes to the veteran leader, PCC President  Tariq Hameed Karra recalled his services to the society and the party for a long time. He is remembered today because of his honesty, integrity, values in politics and qualities of leadership. He was very popular amongst masses of all sections of society. He took care of his downtrodden class of people and uplifted the weaker sections. He was MLA, MLC and minister for a long time and worked for the welfare of the common man. He served as President of J&K Pradesh Congress in 1970 to 1972 and the party was strengthened under his leadership.

PCC Chief said that despite being in power and in prime positions for a long time and having severed as minister in the cabinet of different Chief Ministers office time, he had no house or wealth but his real wealth is the respect he commands even today amongst the common masses.

He said that the Congress has launched a programme to remember our forefathers and the veteran leaders of the party under the campaign “ Back to Roots” Bzaurgoon Ka Samman whereby all veteran leaders shall be remembered and honoured who have contributed in the state and to the party.

AICC General Secretary and CLP leader Shri Ghulam Ahmed Mir paid rich tributes to the veteran leader and recalled his service to the society and party with honesty, integrity and loyality. He said Bhagat Chhajju Ram Ji was very popular among masses of all sections and was always available to the people.

He was a symbol of simplicity honesty and was down to earth. He was a dedicated and devoted leader of the party and always  raised the problems of poor people especially weaker sections. Leaders like Bhagat Chhajju Ram live in hearts of people for their qualities of leadership and values of politics.

Veteran leader Sdr. Gurmukh Singh, he as associate of Bhagat Chhajju Ram Ji, remembered his contributions and qualities of leadership. He said Bhagat sahib was known as “ Riyasati Gandhi” for his simplicity and honesty and commitment to the principles laid down in the public life by Mahatma Gandhi and Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. He lauded the efforts of PCC for remembering such veteran leaders who contributed a lot in public life.

Working President Raman Bhalla paid floral  tributes to Bhagat Sahib, and termed him a man of masses who was not only popular amongst his community but amongst all class of people. He was liked by all and was always available to the common man for help.

He said that Bhagat Chhajju Ram is remembered amongst the people with great respect which speaks of his popularity and qualities of leadership. He suggested that party should organize more functions amongst his people in the areas he represented for long time.

Th. Balwan Singh, a former legislator who was associate of Bhagat Sahab in 1983 Assembly, recalled his qualities of leadership, especially to carry along the younger leadership of the time with him.

Former Minister Smt. Suman Bhagat, the daughter-in-law of Bhagat Chhajju Ram said that he encouraged her in politics which shows his commitment to women empowerment. He was always amongst the people till last. His grandson Advocate Parveen Bhagat also threw light about his simplicity, honesty and qualities of leadership.
