New Delhi, Feb 23 : In a fresh political confrontation in Telangana, Congress leaders on Sunday accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of granting construction approvals in violation of regulations and attempting to mislead residents over the ongoing Musi rejuvenation project.
Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Balmoori Venkat alleged that BRS MLA T Harish Rao was instigating apartment residents against the state government.
Allegations Over Buffer Zone Violations
Reddy claimed that certain residential projects, including the Madhu Park Ridge apartment complex, were cleared in breach of mandatory buffer zone norms. According to him, regulations require a 30-metre buffer, but only nine metres were reportedly provided in some cases under the previous administration.
He alleged that several such permissions were granted during the earlier regime without adherence to prescribed rules. Dismissing criticism from Harish Rao, the Congress MP accused the BRS leader of deflecting responsibility and making repeated allegations against the present government for political relevance.
Compensation and Legal Action Promised
Reddy said many residents had purchased homes without knowledge of regulatory lapses and should not suffer for administrative failures. He assured that the Congress government would compensate families displaced due to corrective measures linked to the Musi project. He also indicated that legal action could be pursued against builders and officials found responsible for violations.
The Congress leader added that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy remains committed to large scale infrastructure initiatives in Hyderabad, including Metro expansion, the Musi river rejuvenation, regional ring road connectivity, elevated corridors and the proposed Bharat Future City.
Counter-Accusations Over Past Projects
MLC Venkat alleged that the BRS had earlier displaced villagers during the Mallanna Sagar irrigation project without adequate rehabilitation. He further claimed that opposition leaders were resisting the Musi initiative for political reasons, fearing credit would go to the current administration.
Referring to earlier promises to clean up Hussain Sagar, Venkat alleged financial irregularities during the previous tenure and said the Congress government would ensure transparency while supporting affected households.
The BRS has not yet issued a detailed response to the latest allegations.
