Congress Slams Modi, Shah for ‘Vendetta Politics’ After FIR Against Sonia and Rahul

Party calls National Herald case “bogus”, says harassment aimed at top leadership

NEW DELHI, Nov 30: The Congress on Sunday accused the “Modi–Shah duo” of pursuing a mischievous politics of harassment, intimidation and vendetta after the Delhi Police registered an FIR against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Calling the case “completely bogus,” the party asserted that justice would ultimately prevail.

In a post on X, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said, “The Modi–Shah duo is continuing with its mischievous politics of harassment, intimidation, and vendetta against the top leadership of the INC. Those who threaten are themselves insecure and afraid.” He reiterated that the National Herald case lacks merit, adding, “Satyameva Jayate.”

The Delhi Police filed the FIR on a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of its money-laundering probe into allegations that the Gandhis and others “abused” their positions for personal gain.

According to official sources, the Economic Offences Wing registered the complaint on October 3. The FIR invokes IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 403 (dishonest misappropriation), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), naming Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leaders Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda, Young Indian (YI), Dotex Merchandise Ltd., Dotex promoter Sunil Bhandari, Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL) and others.

These entities also appear as accused in the ED chargesheet submitted before a Delhi court in April. The court has yet to take cognisance of the chargesheet, with the next hearing set for December 16.

The Congress has repeatedly denounced the investigation as “petty vendetta tactics,” accusing the ED of functioning like a “coalition partner” of the BJP.

A Delhi court on Saturday deferred its order on taking cognisance of the ED chargesheet, rescheduling the pronouncement to December 16.
