Congress Slams PM Modi for Ignoring Job Crisis, Says He’s Always in Election Mode

Jairam Ramesh accuses Modi government of ignoring India’s rising unemployment and inflation while focusing on political campaigns

New Delhi, Nov 6: The Congress on Thursday expressed serious concern over India’s escalating unemployment crisis, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “always in election mode” instead of addressing the country’s pressing economic issues.
Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said that the “past 11 years of misrule” under the Modi government have adversely affected every section of society  from students and farmers to labourers and small business owners.
“Inflation is at record highs, the rupee continues to weaken, and the gap between the rich and the poor is widening, making life increasingly difficult for middle class and poor families,” Ramesh posted on X.
Citing data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), he noted that India’s unemployment rate rose to 7.5% in October 2025  the highest in six months. “More than 90 lakh workers have lost jobs in the construction sector, while around 25 lakh salaried positions have vanished,” Ramesh claimed.
The Congress leader further alleged that despite these alarming trends, Prime Minister Modi remains focused on election rallies and political narratives. “Modi ji seems to have no concern for the youth. Instead of addressing unemployment, he keeps inventing new speeches to distract the public,” Ramesh said.
The Congress has consistently criticised the Modi government over economic management, highlighting issues such as high inflation, falling private investment, and stagnating wages that have made life difficult for ordinary citizens.
