Anantnag July 14, 2024: Congress will continue to fight for a dignified life and safeguard people’s rights, which are under assault since 2014, when the BJP Govt assumed power at the Centre and started weakening democracy and the democratic institutions for the lust of power.
The Party will defeat any endeavor of BJP to undermine the authority of democratic institutions, although there have been damages to the democratic process and democracy in J&K and elsewhere in the country, but it is the Congress Party’s commitment to safeguard the institutions for the benefit of the common people.
This was stated by General Secretary Indian National Congress and Former JKPCC President Ghulam Ahmad Mir while addressing a Congress workers convention at Akingam in Dooru constituency of South Kashmir, where he (Mir)urged the workers to strengthen Congress and continue highlighting public issues for their time resolution.
On this occasion, Ghulam Ahmad Mir lamented the fact that people have been pushed towards darkness after downgrading J&K into two UTs, besides snatching their rights to serve BJP’s political agenda.
He said It is an established fact that J&K is nowhere on the developmental map although the BJP Govt at the Centre and its LG Govt in J&K have been making very tall claims with respect to development such as Back to Village programmes, development at grass or employment, but these are nowhere to be seen. Mere tall claims and developmental slogans could not hide Modi Govt’s failure, with the result people are aware as to what they got under the Modi Govt. The fact remains that J&K’s identity and people’s rights were assaulted, Mir added and said J&K has become a testing laboratory in which experiments are done on a daily basis to serve BJP’s agenda unfortunately at the cost of people’s rights and their aspirations.
Mir said had there been a popular Govt in J&K, the situation would have been different in every respect be it development, employment or be it other privileges, but BJP Govt is continuously undermining and assaulting the democratic institutions in systematic manner, then they claim to have bring stars down on the earth, which is just an eye wash and a failed attempt to hide failures, Mir said.
Referring to the local issues in Akingam and elsewhere in the Dooru Segment, Mir people have been suffering badly for proper irrigation facilities especially drinking water scarcity and lack of development, besides other local issues such as the poor supply of electricity, etc. He urged the LG Administration to ensure timely redressal of grievance
