Jammu, 23 February 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir organized a Cooperative Convention at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, bringing together representatives of various cooperative societies from across the Jammu region. The convention was addressed by J&K BJP President and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sat Sharma CA and BJP General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul.

Prominent leaders present on the occasion included General Secretary Sanjita Dogra, All Cell Incharge Ved Sharma, Cooperative Cell Convenor Ankush Gupta, and Convention Coordinator HS Pammi, while also witnessing the participation from Dr. Nidhi Pathania, Veena Bakshi, Darshan Lal, Sunil Dutt Shastri, MR Puri, Chander Bhushan, and other prominent representing cooperative fraternity from the region.

Addressing the convention, Sat Sharma raised serious concerns over the functioning of cooperative societies in the Union Territory. He informed that out of 10,646 registered cooperative societies, only around 6,000 are currently functional, and even among these, many are not functioning consistently. This situation raises a fundamental question about the effective implementation and benefits of the cooperative movement in Jammu & Kashmir. Cooperatives cannot remain confined to files and formalities, they must become engines of economic empowerment, he asserted.

Sat Sharma emphasized that under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the cooperative movement has been accorded national priority. He pledged to take up the issues highlighted during the convention with the Union Home Minister and to raise them forcefully in Parliament to ensure structural reforms and accountability. The BJP is committed to ensuring that the cooperative movement reaches every village of Jammu & Kashmir, no matter how remote, and becomes a pillar of self-reliance and grassroots prosperity, he stated.

Ashok Koul, while emphasizing on the importance of cooperative movement earmarked their role in getting geo-tag for many products from Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the cooperative movement has augmented the socio-economic strengthening of the skilled and unskilled persons from various fields across the Union territory. He emphasized upon three core pillars to boost such benefits, which include awareness, training, and financial support, and urged participants to actively contribute to strengthening the cooperative ecosystem.

Ved Sharma, at the outset of convention, shared the outline of whole programme, and focused on the role of cooperative movement in J&K.

HS Pammi conducted the convention proceedings, while the vote of thanks was given by Ankush Gupta.
