Srinagar, Dec 19: In a significant crackdown on job frauds targeting unemployed youth, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a fake Railway recruitment scam, exposing a well-organised conspiracy involving forged appointment letters and financial exploitation.
The chargesheet has been submitted before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Beerwah, Budgam, in FIR No. 08/2025 against three accused for their alleged involvement in duping aspirants on the pretext of securing government employment. The accused have been chargesheeted under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused have been identified as Abdul Hamid Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh, resident of Chewdara, Beerwah, Budgam; Adil Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah, resident of Sonwar, Srinagar, at present Zewan; and Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, son of Mohammad Ashoor Kumar, resident of Hib-Dangerpora, Sopore, at present Rutsuna, Beerwah, Budgam.
The case originated from a written complaint lodged by Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, who alleged that Abdul Hamid Sheikh and Adil Shah had provided him with fake appointment letters purportedly issued by the Railway Recruitment Board, New Delhi. The forged letters bore fabricated seals and signatures of the Deputy General Manager (DGM), Northern Railway, Paharganj, New Delhi.
Following the complaint, the EOW Kashmir initiated a detailed investigation. During the probe, it was prima facie established that the accused had conspired to lure victims with promises of government jobs and extracted substantial amounts of money. Verification of the appointment letters confirmed that they were forged and fake.
However, the investigation also revealed that the complainant, Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, was himself actively involved in the fraudulent scheme. He was found to have taken money from other job aspirants on the false promise of employment and issued fake job orders to them, thereby emerging as a co-conspirator in the racket.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the final report under Section 173 CrPC has been presented before the court for judicial determination.
Reiterating its commitment to curb economic offences, the Crime Branch Kashmir said it remains steadfast in protecting innocent citizens from fraudulent job rackets and urged the public to verify recruitment offers through official channels.
