09-11-2023 : The upcoming winter session of the Parliament, scheduled from December 4 to December 22, is poised to be a crucial legislative period with 15 sittings spread over 19 days. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced the session’s duration and expressed anticipation for meaningful discussions on legislative matters and other agenda items during this period. A notable highlight of the session is the anticipated discussion on the report of the Ethics Committee regarding cash-for-query allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.
The committee has recommended her expulsion and a detailed probe into the alleged misconduct. To proceed with any action against Moitra, the Lok Sabha must adopt the committee’s report. Additionally, three significant bills aiming to replace the IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act are expected to be considered, following their recent adoption by a parliamentary standing committee. Another crucial bill related to the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners is pending, adding to the session’s legislative agenda. As the winter session unfolds, it promises to be a dynamic period of parliamentary deliberations and decisions on critical legislative matters.
