Mumbai, June 27 : The admission season has entered a crucial phase as universities across the country are preparing to begin the counselling process for the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026. Following the declaration of examination results, several participating institutions have started publishing their admission schedules, eligibility criteria and registration timelines for undergraduate programmes.
Officials said that candidates seeking admission through CUET-UG should regularly monitor the official websites of their preferred universities, as counselling schedules and admission procedures may differ from one institution to another. Universities are expected to conduct online registration, document verification, merit preparation and seat allotment in multiple rounds.
Education experts have advised students to keep all essential documents ready in advance, including Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, CUET scorecard, category certificates, domicile certificate, passport-size photographs and identity proof. Any discrepancy in documents could delay the admission process.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has repeatedly encouraged higher educational institutions to maintain transparency during admissions and ensure that candidates receive timely information regarding counselling dates, vacant seats and fee payment deadlines.
Several universities have indicated that admissions will be based on programme-specific eligibility requirements and CUET scores. Students belonging to reserved categories have also been advised to verify the availability of reservation benefits before completing the registration process.
Admission counsellors said applicants should carefully study each university’s admission brochure because eligibility conditions, subject combinations and cut-off criteria vary across institutions. They also cautioned students against relying on unofficial websites or social media rumours regarding admission dates.
The counselling process generally includes online registration, choice filling, merit list publication, document verification, payment of admission fees and confirmation of allotted seats. Universities may conduct additional counselling rounds if seats remain vacant after the initial allotments.
Experts believe that CUET has helped streamline undergraduate admissions by providing a common entrance platform for participating universities. However, students must remain attentive throughout the counselling period since missing deadlines could result in the cancellation of admission opportunities.
Educational institutions have appealed to candidates to complete all formalities within the stipulated timelines and maintain regular communication with university admission portals. Students have also been advised to retain printed and digital copies of all submitted documents for future reference.
With admissions expected to gain momentum over the coming weeks, thousands of students are now awaiting the release of university-wise merit lists and counselling schedules to secure seats in their preferred undergraduate courses.
