Cyclone Ditwah Approaches India After Devastating Sri Lanka

IMD issues alerts for Tamil Nadu and eastern coast relief teams on standby

Tamil Nadu, Dec 01 : Cyclone Ditwah, which has wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka and claimed nearly 200 lives, is now moving toward the Indian coastline, prompting authorities to issue precautionary measures.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Tamil Nadu is expected to face the brunt of the cyclone, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and surface winds reaching up to 27 kmph. Alerts have also been issued for Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and West Bengal as the system remains close to the eastern coast.

India has already deployed disaster response units and relief teams along vulnerable coastal areas, while ongoing Operation Sagar Bandhu continues to support recovery efforts in Sri Lanka. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure timely response to any emergencies triggered by the approaching cyclone.
