New Delhi, Oct 1: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has reached its 100-year milestone due to the unwavering support and affection of the people, said its General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Wednesday. His remarks came just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative postage stamp and coin to mark the Sangh’s centenary.
Hosabale expressed gratitude to the government, calling the gesture a recognition of the Sangh’s “selfless” work over the past century. Since its founding by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar on Vijayadashmi in 1925, the RSS and its swayamsevaks have dedicated themselves to nation-building through the character development of individuals, he said.
Speaking at an event organised by the Union Culture Ministry, Hosabale said, “It is a matter of joy for the Sangh’s swayamsevaks and patriots that the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a postage stamp and coin on this special occasion. On behalf of all swayamsevaks, including those abroad, I express our heartfelt gratitude.”
He highlighted India’s tradition of recognizing individuals and organizations for their contributions, noting that the centenary recognition reflects the Sangh’s enduring service to the nation.
Describing RSS’s century-long journey as “interesting,” Hosabale said the Sangh has survived challenges including opposition, indifference, and struggle, relying on the intimacy, affection, and support of the people. “Sangh workers have consistently experienced the love, support, and cooperation of the people since the day of its foundation,” he added.
