David Beckham Responds After Son Brooklyn Accuses Parents of Controlling His Narrative

Beckham speaks on parenting, social media, and mistakes at World Economic Forum following son’s emotional social media post

Victoria, Jan 21 : The Beckham family found itself at the centre of public attention this week after Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, took to Instagram to accuse his parents of trying to “control the narrative” around his life.

In a deeply personal post, Brooklyn said he had stayed silent for years to protect family privacy but felt compelled to speak out after repeated media stories and leaks. He claimed his parents interfered in his personal life, including his relationship with actress Nicola Peltz, and described incidents during his wedding that left him feeling “humiliated.”

Brooklyn alleged that Victoria Beckham cancelled making Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute and pressured him to sign away the rights to his own name. He also described an uncomfortable wedding day moment during what was supposed to be his first dance with Nicola.

The post comes after three years of reported estrangement between Brooklyn and his parents, marked by subtle signs such as Instagram unfollows, separate appearances, and public silence.

David Beckham addressed the controversy the following day while speaking at the World Economic Forum’s 56th Annual Meeting in Switzerland. Without naming Brooklyn directly, he reflected on parenting, social media, and the lessons children learn from mistakes.

“I’ve always spoken about social media and the power of social media, for the good and for the bad,” David said on CNBC’s Squawk Box, highlighting both the opportunities and risks that online platforms present for young people.

“I’ve tried to do the same with my children to educate them,” he added, emphasizing the importance of allowing children to make mistakes as a part of growing up. He also spoke about his ongoing work with UNICEF, describing it as a meaningful use of his public platform to raise awareness of issues affecting children worldwide.

David’s measured response contrasts with Brooklyn’s emotional social media statement, signalling his preference to address the matter thoughtfully rather than publicly dispute the allegations.
