Delhi Airport Reports 148 Flight Cancellations Amid Low Visibility

Over 150 flights delayed as fog disrupts operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport; airlines instructed to assist affected passengers.

New Delhi, Dec 31: Dense fog and low visibility caused significant disruption at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Wednesday, leading to the cancellation of at least 148 flights and delays for over 150 others.

According to officials, 78 arrivals and 70 departures were cancelled, and two flights were diverted. IGIA, operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), said in a morning update on X that visibility is improving, but some flights may still be affected.

Airport officials are coordinating closely with airlines and other stakeholders to provide necessary assistance to passengers across terminals. The Civil Aviation Ministry also warned that fog in parts of Northern India could affect operations at select airports.

“Airlines have been instructed to strictly follow passenger service norms, including providing timely information, assistance during delays, rebooking or refunds where applicable, and baggage facilitation,” the ministry added.

IGIA handles approximately 1,300 flight movements daily, making it one of the busiest airports in the country. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updates before travelling.
