New Delhi, Dec 17: Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 10,000 for construction workers rendered unemployed due to the implementation of pollution control GRAP III and GRAP IV measures.
The minister further directed that all government and private institutions must ensure 50% of their staff work from home starting Thursday, with non-compliance attracting strict action.
Addressing the press, Mishra said the GRAP III restrictions had been in effect for 16 days, and workers affected during this period would be eligible for Rs 10,000. “Similarly, workers will be compensated for the duration of GRAP IV. These benefits will apply to workers registered with the government, and the registration process is ongoing,” he added.
The compensation scheme excludes personnel from hospitals, fire services, pollution-control departments, and other essential services.
Mishra also criticized political opponents, stating, “The chief minister used to run away during the pollution season, but our chief minister is present on the ground. The pollution problem has persisted for 30 years and cannot be solved in just five months. Political point-scoring should not distract from addressing the issue.”
