Delhi Grapples with ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality as Fog Engulfs Parts of City

AQI Hits 355; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Dense Morning Fog

New Delhi, Dec 27 : Delhi woke up to a “very poor” air quality on Saturday morning as shallow to moderate fog shrouded parts of the city. The minimum temperature settled at 7.6°C, slightly above normal, while the maximum is expected to hover between 21°C and 23°C over the next few days under the influence of a western disturbance.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Sunday, cautioning residents about moderate to dense fog affecting visibility during the early hours.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 9 am stood at 355, up from 332 at 4 pm on Friday, indicating hazardous conditions. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi, air pollution levels are likely to remain “very poor” into next week.

Visibility was notably reduced at key locations, with Safdarjung reporting just 400 meters at 8:30 am, improving slightly to 500 meters by 9 am. Palam recorded a visibility of 800 meters during the same time. Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions.
