New Delhi, Aug 27: Delhi has reported a sharp rise in H1N1 influenza infections, with 138 new cases recorded in a single day, taking the total number of cases reported in the capital this year to 2,446, according to government data.
The increase has prompted health authorities to strengthen preparedness at hospitals and other medical facilities. Hospitals have been asked to establish dedicated flu corners to help identify and manage patients with suspected influenza infections.
Health experts have also urged residents to take basic precautions, particularly in crowded places where respiratory infections can spread more easily. Wearing masks when necessary, maintaining hand hygiene and avoiding close contact with people showing flu-like symptoms are among the measures being recommended.
The Delhi Medical Association has advised people against self medication and urged those experiencing persistent fever, cough, breathing difficulties or other concerning symptoms to consult qualified medical professionals.
Despite the increase in infections, Delhi’s health authorities have maintained that there is no need for panic. Officials are monitoring the situation while medical facilities are being prepared to handle any further rise in patient numbers.
Medical experts have emphasised that timely medical attention remains important, particularly for elderly people, children and individuals who may be more vulnerable to complications from influenza.
