Telugu, Dec 09 : Superstar Jr NTR has approached the Delhi High Court seeking urgent protection against the misuse of his name, image, and other personal attributes on social media and e-commerce platforms. The court has issued a strong directive, asking the platforms to respond within three days, underlining the importance of safeguarding celebrity rights in the digital era.
Petition Filed in Delhi HC
Jr NTR’s legal team, led by senior advocate J Sai Deepak, informed the court that multiple online platforms were using the actor’s identity without consent, primarily for commercial purposes.
“These websites and apps are displaying content that violates Jr NTR’s personality rights,” Deepak told the court.
Court Directions
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh heard the petition and directed the platforms to treat it as a formal complaint under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The companies have been given three days to respond, with the matter scheduled for further hearing on December 22, when a detailed order is expected.
Context and Precedent
This is not the first time Indian celebrities have sought judicial intervention to protect their online identity. Prominent figures including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, and Chiranjeevi have previously approached courts to tackle the unauthorized use of their images and personal information online.
The case highlights the growing legal recognition of celebrity personality rights and the need for stricter enforcement against online misuse in India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
