NEW DELHI, Sept 8: The Delhi High Court has sought responses from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on a petition challenging the decision to reconduct three papers of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination.
The re-examination concerns the English and Commerce papers scheduled for September 9 and the Sociology paper scheduled for September 10. The petition questions the NTA’s decision to conduct the tests again, arguing that the move was arbitrary and affected candidates who had already appeared for the examination.
The petitioner has also sought relief for candidates who may have to bear additional costs because of the fresh examination. The plea has raised concerns over transparency and alleged deviations from the examination guidelines.
The NTA had ordered the re-test following complaints about errors identified in the question papers. A review reportedly pointed to factual, grammatical and typographical issues, including problems involving names of scholars and repetition of questions.
The original UGC-NET June examination was conducted between June 22 and June 30 across 87 subjects. The test determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, assistant professorship and PhD admissions.
With the re-examination approaching, the development has added another layer of uncertainty for thousands of candidates awaiting clarity on the outcome of the disputed papers.
The Delhi High Court has listed the matter for further consideration, with the next hearing scheduled for October 6.
