Delhi HC Strikes Off Mandhira Kapur’s Name From Order in Sunjay Kapur Will Dispute

Court directs deletion of sister’s name, clearing way for widow and children to contest Rs 30,000 crore estate

NEW DELHI: The legal battle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s estate witnessed a key development on Friday as the Delhi High Court directed that his sister, Mandhira Kapur, be removed from its earlier order in the ongoing dispute concerning his alleged will.

Justice Jyoti Singh passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Sunjay’s two children with actor and former wife Karisma Kapoor, who are challenging the will and asserting their claim over assets valued at around Rs 30,000 crore.

The court approved an application by Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s widow, and her minor son, seeking to delete Mandhira’s mention from the September 10 order. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya, argued that including Mandhira’s name was “an attempt to gain a backdoor entry into the proceedings.” The application highlighted that Mandhira is not a party to the current case, and her representation in the order was incorrect.

Earlier, the court had directed Priya Kapur to provide details of all movable and immovable assets held by Sunjay Kapur as of June 12, the date of his death.

Sunjay Kapur, who married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and divorced in 2016, passed away on June 12 during a polo match in London after reportedly swallowing a bee, resulting in a fatal heart attack. Meanwhile, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has written to UK authorities disputing the cause of death and requesting an investigation into possible murder, conspiracy, and financial irregularities surrounding his demise.
