Delhi-NCR Enjoys Clear Skies, But IMD Warns of Dense Fog Post Christmas Heavy Rains Forecast in Uttarakhand

Calm Morning in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad Brings Relief, But Dense Fog and Cold Wave Alerts Loom Ahead

New Delhi, Dec 24 : Delhi-NCR experienced a clear and calm Wednesday morning, contrary to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of dense to moderate fog. Cities including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad reported good visibility, with Delhi’s IGI Airport recording 300 metres at 7 am. Temperatures remained stable, showing no significant drop compared to Tuesday.

Why Fog Didn’t Form:
Weather experts explained that fog formation depends on very low wind speeds combined with high humidity. On Wednesday, these conditions were not fully met, resulting in clear skies across the region.

Upcoming Weather in Delhi-NCR:
Over the next week, Delhi is expected to witness minimum temperatures around 7–8°C and maximums of 19–20°C. While Christmas Day (December 25) will remain relatively normal, the IMD has issued a dense fog alert for December 26, which could reduce visibility and intensify the cold.

Fog and Cold Alerts Across States:
Dense fog and cold waves are likely to affect multiple states. Eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh may experience cold wave conditions on December 23, while Bihar could face severe cold from December 23 to 28. Cities expected to see dense fog include Agra, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Ghaziabad, Amritsar, Hisar, Ambala, and Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh.

Rain and Snow in the Mountains:
Rain and snowfall are forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on December 23 and again between December 27–29. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness heavy rainfall from December 28–29, according to the IMD.

Conclusion:
While Delhi-NCR enjoyed clear skies on Wednesday, residents are advised to stay updated on the upcoming dense fog and cold weather alerts, especially post-Christmas, and take necessary precautions for travel and outdoor activities.
