New Delhi, Feb 07 : Delhi-NCR experienced a noticeable uptick in temperatures on Saturday, with bright sunshine marking a shift in weather conditions even as air quality across the region stayed in the ‘poor’ category.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital recorded a maximum temperature about 1.5 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average on Friday, signalling a gradual change in the weather pattern. Similar conditions are expected to continue, supported by clear skies and steady winds ranging between 15 and 25 kmph.
The maximum temperature is forecast to hover between 23°C and 25°C, while the minimum is likely to settle between 9°C and 11°C. Morning haze may persist briefly but is expected to clear as the day advances, giving way to predominantly sunny conditions.
Despite the relatively pleasant daytime weather, pollution remained a pressing issue. Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 260, placing it firmly in the ‘poor’ bracket. Several monitoring stations reported elevated levels, including Anand Vihar (260), Dwarka Sector-8 (243), Chandni Chowk (232), ITO (223), Okhla Phase-2 (228), DTU (204) and Burari (202).
In a parallel development, the Delhi government has initiated steps to overhaul the city’s transport framework. A task force has been set up to draft legislation for establishing the Delhi Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA) and creating a dedicated Delhi Urban Transport Fund (DUTF).
Officials said the proposed law aims to integrate and coordinate the capital’s currently fragmented transport systems under a single governance structure. The move is viewed as part of a broader push to build a modern, efficient and environmentally sustainable mobility network for residents
